As sponsor of Pennies for the Park, Jeff Hale passed legislation to provide additional funding for recreational facilities in Hernando, MS. This legislation uses a 3% tax on prepared food to invest in and improve recreational facilities.
Pennies for Parks is exactly how it sounds. Just a few cents from your restaurant or grocery store bill will go towards funding park improvements. According to an article by Fox 13 News, residents of Hernando, Southaven, Olive Branch & Horn Lake have requested a new softball and t-ball field. Improvements to tennis, basketball, and football facilities could be made possible through this bill. These improvements would likely be impossible to fund without the Pennies for Parks bill.
